Ascent Trip Report

The bus ride to get to Thorsmork is half the adventure as many unbridged glacier rivers must be crossed to get there (only possible to get there by special bus or super jeep). Thorsmork is a truly awesome place, a forested area situated in between 3 glaciers.

The hike up Valahnukur is a pretty easy one. I don't recall specific details of the hike as I am entering this 5 years later. But I remember that at the summit, the panoramic 360 degree views were just simply some of the most outstanding I have ever seen, despite a grey rainy day. Still in my beginnings as a hiker at that point, but still one of my most memorable. This was my second trip to Iceland, first time with any actual hiking.
