Ascent Trip ReportA road/track climb southbound from Reservation Road ....... 2.8 miles, 1h35 hours RT.
After climbing Mount Toby we traveled north on I91, to exit 24, then east to Sunderland. At Hwy junction 116/47 we turned left (north) on 47 for 3.8 miles to a right on Reservation Road, .5 miles to a gated/locked dirt road on the right which leads to the summit's Sunderland Fire Tower, a large sign "Mount Toby Forest, University of MA". Park here without blocking the gate, this is the TH.
I walked southbound on the dirt road for about .7 miles to a fork in the road, the road for the Tower continues to the left, I stayed right on the rough track as it starts-the-climb/follows a power line all the way to the summit at another .7 miles.
The summit is capped with a fenced-in (open gate) Fire Tower which is equipped with Communication Equipment, a small building is to one side. You have to climb the tower for views. I chose my HP at the northside of the Tower footprint, GPS 42.48800,-72.53758.
I found a BM 20 yards south of the Fire Tower, at a lower elevation, "US Coast & Geodetic Reference Mark, Toby, 1937, #2 MGS".
