Ascent Trip ReportThis ascent report is embarrassing to write. I was actually trying to climb Chestnut Bald, the highest point in Transylvania County, and I ended up at the summit of Devils Courthouse instead. I will admit, however, that the weather was foggy and rainy, so I did not look at my GPS very much. I just followed the paved trail and noticed early in my climb that it was headed in the correct direction, so that was good enough for me. I was quite surprised to find myself at the dead end summit of Devils Courthouse. I was forced to backtrack to a fork in the trail and hike in the opposite direction, hoping to reach the AT which would take me to the peak I was trying to ascend in the first place. I could not see any view from Devils Courthouse due to the fog, but the summit navigational aids provided at the summit made me feel an excellent vista is available for climbers who have the sense to reach summits in good weather!
