Ascent Trip ReportI tried to get to the high point of Epsom, NH once before, but I went the wrong way. I went the right way this time.
I parked at the first "Authorized Vehicles sign," and continued on that road. It was easy walking at first. The road went more uphill at one point, passed a clearing, and turned right. There was a gate with a sign that said "Authorized Vehicles Only; 4WD and chains required" or something like that. The sign did say that hikers were welcome. My dad and I went around the sign and started the hike toward the summit.
After the gate, the road got steeper. It winded up Fort Mountain's slope with some moderate/steep sections. Power lines indirectly paralled the trail. The road circled the tower and eventually ended at it.
The views from the summit were good, and would've been amazing if it wasn't incredibly hazy. I took some video and took a water break while taking in the limited but good view. We then went back down. |
