Ascent Trip Report

We were picked up from the hotel by a 4x4 car early in the morning. Stopped for a while on the way to get some good food. Soon we drove on unpaved roads for an hour or so and crossed several streams. In the end, the car got stuck halfway in the mud.  Jumping out and continued to walk through the knee-deep mud. After a couple of kilometers, we realized that the guide did not know about this road and that the beginning of the old trail can be difficult to find. We went back and, to our surprise, we found the car pulled out of the mud. The construction workers offer to drive us to the trailhead with a bulldozer. The PB form should be updated to include a new type of peakbagging equipment - the bulldozer:) Later, the same bulldozer dragged our 4x4 to the passable part of the road. One of the employees accompanied our car and showed us where the new trail starts at 4.009527, 102.931027. From here, there was quite a good path through the jungle. It is steeper and wetter in places, but nothing compared to the morning walk in the mud. At the top is marker, beirut and a group of local hikers. Not much visible, but fine. Soon, we went back down the same way. A memorable trip.

3h10 up, 2h10 down, 5h20 roundtrip. Times represents only hiking time, starting from the correct trailhead.

Photos from Gunung Tapis

This was a self-organized trip. Made with the help of a driver in Indonesia and a few local guides in Malaysia. Due to landslides, all parks in the Perak region in Malaysia were closed, so we substituted them with a few-day peakbagging trip in Indonesia.
