Ascent Trip ReportWe left the car at the park office at the bend of the road at -7.271916, 109.985777. We checked in and checked out when we came down from the mountain, because in the morning the office was completely empty. It was possible to walk straight through the tea plantations , but the slightly longer service road was more convenient. Later, a steep trail along the volcano's slope leads to the rim. From time to time, we could smell sulfur. There was a lot of noise coming from the crater's center, but visibility was limited due to clouds. In several sections of the trail, the sulfur gnaws at the throat. Practically every slightly larger rim hill is marked as a mountain top. We went around the entire crater and visited all the peaks, even the more distant PB peak (on the slope, obviously not HP). An interesting moonlike landscape. Dead vegetation, presumebly due to the volcano's activity. Soon we went down the same path. We got some great local tea at the park office. A cool day.
3h30 up, 0h30 on the rim, 3h00 down, 7h30 round trip.
Photos from Sindoro
This was a self-organized trip. Made with the help of a driver in Indonesia and a few local guides in Malaysia. Due to landslides, all parks in the Perak region in Malaysia were closed, so we substituted them with a few-day peakbagging trip in Indonesia.
