Ascent Trip Report

I finally found a long weekend to drive out from the Los Angeles area to finish this climb. I had been in the area in November 2019 to climb Arc Dome, but a highway accident on US-95 prevented me from getting to Pine Creak TH in time to trek the 18-miles before my trip home.

For this trip I flew into Reno and rented a Hyundai Kona with all-wheel drive and 6.7" ground clearance. I easily made it to Bull Frame Canyon and the good camping, though I had to stop the vehicle a handful of times to throw larger rocks off to the side of the road.

Unseasonably cold and windy. No snow on route, enough snow to fill a water bottle with a short downclimb from the summit. No water, even at camp.

As many others have noted, there is a clear trail up the south ridge from Jefferson Summit. The cairns are unusually large and frequent except where you want them, across a meadow where the southwest ridge joins the ridgeline between Bull Frame Mountain (south) and the South summit of Mount Jefferson.
