Ascent Trip ReportTrisha and I did this one from the newly-opened Rock of Ages trailhead, which now replaces the former standard route through Silver Pick Basin. Starting farther west, it's a bit longer than the old route, but still the shortest way to this summit. It took us just about four hours to reach the Rock of Ages saddle (13,020 ft.), and an amazing two-and-a-half hours to make the remaining 0.6 mile, 1,000-ft. climb to the summit. The crux is, as advertised, the descent from the false summit (~13,985 ft.) and the final climb to the true summit. Both sides are steep, and it looks daunting at first, but the rock is solid. Awesome views in all directions from the summit, and we benefitted from consistently good weather. 14er #49 for me, #48 for Trisha.
