Ascent Trip ReportStarting from the bus stop at le Châtelard, I descended down to the river, then up to the village of Montlardier. From here, a path leads up to the col de Rossanaz. Initially easy to follow, the path becomes extremely faint higher up. I lost my way and went off piste, climbing fairly directly up, before realising I was heading into a dead-end bounded by big cliffs up ahead. I traversed to the left (East) under a rock band before eventually finding the proper path again. Above around 1500 m the going was over soft slushy snow. There is an annoying downclimb from the col de Rossanaz before the final climb up to the summit via the col du Colombier. Despite getting a bit lost, I somehow made the summit in just under 3 hours. I decended the same way I came up, taking care to follow the correct path (almost) all the way.
Overall, a decent climb but anyone who manages to follow the path all the way deserves a medal. A bus driver told me the route was used by farmers in the past but they now use another way (probably one more accessible by quad bikes). |
