Ascent Trip ReportA short drive off Hwy 285, just 3.5 miles on FR 87 (2wd) to reach where I started. For the most part, all the public access roads that once were have been reclaimed by San Antonio. So whichever route you choose plan on it being almost entirely off-trail.
I felt this was a smooth sailing line to take with steady terrain and gain. Antone was by far the better summit for the open views and an old cabin to explore at the top. Snow was stacked from Antone to San Antonio and I was able to follow trenched in tracks for that part. Thank you animals! I really liked this peak because it brought back early memories of growing up for the first four years of my life in North Dakota; a barren and wind scoured landscape with the exception of the large rolling hill behind my house, covered with cacti and swaying tall grass that I would run up and down all day. |
