Ascent Trip ReportClimbed from the train station at Culoz via a track leading up the impressive South face, then over deep snow along the ridge up to the summit. On a couple of occasions I made the mistake of following the crest of the ridge too closely, leading to dangerous exposed climbing. The summit is marked by a trig point, with an electricy pylon a little further down. There is another summit immediately to the North, but this appears to be lower.
A long, challenging day, which only increased my disdain for people who drive their cars up, then claim to have 'climbed' the mountain. Please don't do this. Grand Colombier is an impressive mountain, especially from the South side, and deserves better than this. |
