Ascent Trip ReportFun desert hike. It’s a long walk up a gently sloping wash until it narrows further up. You will encounter a class 2 dryfall here. It’s super easy to get over.
The wash is narrow after this but solid footing and easy walking. On the ascent, I missed the turn at the cairn pile which marks where most people go up the ridge. I ended up exiting the wash on some steep loose terrain. It was short though. Might as well stayed in the wash up to the ridge.
The upper part of the mountain is definitely looser, but not awful. Zig zagged around a couple outcropping and then up to the summit. Very pretty views up here of the surrounding desert. Of all the junky peaks that are on the different desert peak lists, it’s hard to wonder how this one missed the cut.
Returned back to the wash using Sean Kings track.
Found an unspent .50 cal bullet stamped with the St. Louis Armory in 1943. Also found 5 mylar balloons out here.
Road to trail requires clearance for sure. There are some ups and downs and ruts that would eat up a low clearance vehicle. |
