Ascent Trip ReportWinter hike with Emma and Abby P. We underestimated how long it would take, but thankfully made it out around dusk. We ascended from Ferncroft via Dicey's Mill Trail and then down via Walden Trail and Old Mast Road. About 8" of fresh snow had fallen the previous day, but Dicey's Mill had been packed down by other hikers before us, so we used microspikes. The way down, however, was untouched, so we broke trail with snowshoes. In retrospect, we should not have done a loop, and should have returned the way we came, as the snow, ice, and steepness of Walden Trail slowed us down significantly. Learning experience! On a positive note, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset while coming out on Old Mast Road. |
