Ascent Trip ReportA memorable backpacking trip with Troop 70. Horrible road on the way in. Horrible trail, going over abandoned railroad beds and through swamps on day 1. Day 2 had us going over Black Mountain. Older kids began pitching their sleeping pads down the mountain to lighten their weight. Had to climb down a 50-60 foot drop, face in to the cliff, with Don Meuse and Rich Ford guiding us down. It is a place where we could've used rope. The AMC guide didn't include it in their description. This is the mountain for you if you're looking for solitude. |
