Ascent Trip Report

Hike with Mike S, via devils path from Spruceton, heading off the trail west at the sign/sharp turn after taking a bearing. Cliffs were pretty awesome climbing up. Overall ascent wasn't too bad but got stung and cut up from the nettles. Gained appreciation for winter bushwacking vs summer. Navigation wasn't a problem on the ascent and we managed to move very little north or south, which is what we wanted. Finding the canister (red) was tough with the growth, used GPS had coordinates of canister ;) Signed in, took pictures of the summit markers and headed down. Mike walked us into a nice sunny bear den, with numerous bear beds and scat everywhere, good times. We ended up descending down the northeast side vs the east and followed a brook to a private unknown but very welcoming trail and roads. Good times and blood pumping. Came out alive and walked back to the trailhead on Spruceton. Overall hike was interesting and fun. Need to convince mike to do another bushwhack before winter. Successful APRS beaconing from the NE side at about 3300FT out my 5w radio to a weather station just north of NYC, what what++
