Ascent Trip ReportA wonderful end to a strenuous 5 days in the desert. Covering Straw, Eagle Crags, Brown, and Owlhead the previous four days I was very much looking forward to a more relaxing outing. Turned out we had to go at a fairly slow pace as it was quite a bit warmer than the previous days and the dog was definitely feeling the heat, though enjoying all the new smells found in the desert.
Stuck to the wash a little longer than most to take advantage of bits of shade that still lingered. Just before turning to the summit saw a fair sized group of bighorn sheep, at least two of which had radio collars on. Mia found this to be too tempting and despite near heat exhaustion took off full speed after them once spotted. This was no match for the bighorns and compared to her they were supersonic, ascending the slopes with complete ease. Great views from the summit where we cooled off for quite a while on a crystal clear day.
