Ascent Trip ReportSo we did this hike without a guide and didn't even have to pay the park fee since apparently the park entrance fee station closes after the last guided group goes through. We started our hike up ~3:30 pm on Wednesday the 10th. Nobody on the trails except locals hiking up or down. Once we got into the trees we didn't see anyone till we got close to the area where you can see Volcan Fuego. We set up camp on an unoccupied camping area and weren't bothered all night. The next morning, some guy came down to our camp while we were packing up from another camping area and told us the area was private, apparently, all of the camping areas on the side that faces Fuego is "privatized" but there were a lot of areas that weren't occupied, so I'm not sure if that's really true for the unoccupied areas.
We packed up camp, and hiked up from the viewpoint camping area to the summit, then down to the saddle and back to the route. We took the right hand way up and hiked back down the same trail the second day. The GPS track shows the route from the viewpoint to the summit and then back to the trailhead. We were able to park our truck on the opposite side of the street from the trailhead without any issues. |
