Ascent of Cottrell Knob Northeast on 2021-10-16Date: | Saturday, October 16, 2021 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Cottrell Knob Northeast | Location: | USA-North Carolina | Elevation: | 2666 ft / 812 m |
Ascent Trip ReportI hiked to Cottrell-NE (1k prom) and Loglick peaks at 2666 ft.
I had the parking lot punched into my gps which attempted to take me up Douglas Rd which is a private driveway and won't get you to the TH. After re-reading previous trip reports, I would suggest entering the Buffalo Cover Wildlife management area entrance on Cove Branch Rd: 36.04861,-81.51262. Like others mentioned it looks like a paved private driveway and heavily posted but it's not private driveway and the posting is to keep the hunters off the private properly. After the entrance gate, drive to the main WMA parking lot: 36.06670,-81.50291. On this day all the gates were open. One could easily drive on a good gravel road to the peak itself. I bushwhacked up a very short distance to find the bald recently mowed. I followed the mowing path down to this brown gate: 36.08054,-81.50644. Little bit of a view. I also hiked to Licklog Mnt by following an old road/trail which is becoming overgrown but was marked with tape by a hunter. No views here.
