Ascent Trip Report

We got to Lafayette Campground parking lot at 6:30 am on 10/11/21. Plenty of parking for the holiday. We started on the trail at 6:45 am and took Lonesome Lake Trail to Lonesome Lake. The sun had just starting to come up and it was very peaceful around lake with no other people on the trail. We stopped for a few photos and walked past Lonesome Lake hut towards Cascade Brook Trail which links with the Fishin' Jimmy Trail (part of the AT). Fishin' Jimmy Trail kicked our butts. It was rocky and very steep in some parts. Luckily the trail stewards built nice steps into the rocks so very doable. We made it to North Kinsman Mountain for some great views and a snack before heading on the Kinsman Ridge Trail towards the summit of South Kinsman. South Kinsman had a cairn but we decided to walk down the trail past the summit for views and lunch. It was beautiful at the top, no wind and the weather was very nice. We sat for a while and took photos before heading back onto Kinsman Ridge Trail to retrace our steps to the car. Overall a great hike. First 4K's for us for the season so it was an ambitious hike to say the least. We made it! onto #35.
