Ascent Trip ReportEntered 10/11/2021. Camped outside the cabin in Bethlehem, NH the night before. Got to Lafayette Place Campground at 8:00 AM Sunday and got the last spot in the parking lot just west of I-93. It took us about an hour to get to the Lonesome Lake cutoff trail via Hi-Cannon, and another hour and a half to reach the Summit of Cannon (10:30 AM). After a short stop on the summit tower without views (in the clouds), we retraced our steps and followed the Kinsman Ridge Trail across the Cannonballs to Kinsman Pond. The Cannonballs featured a series of steep climbs and descents with a few relatively flat areas in between. It was essentially a sub-alpine ridge walk. Very interesting. It was very wet and muddy up there but there was no precipitation. We stopped for lunch at Kinsman Pond, bushwhacking 100 feet to find our own, secluded spot. We climbed North Kinsman after that, at which time the clouds began to clear up in short spurts. We summited North Kinsman at 2:00 PM. We decided that we could not make it to South Kinsman today, so we turned back and took the Fishin' Jimmy trail to Lonesome Lake. The trail has a few short steep rocky sections. We stopped at Lonesome Lake for a bit, it was busy. Finally, we booked it down the Lonesome Lake Trail back to Lafayette Place Campground. |
