Ascent Trip ReportGot to the TH with a LC 2WD. It took close to 2 hours to reach the TH on the gravel road. I was doing no more than 10mph. Taking it easy and picking my lines very carefully. My technique was to follow the beaten path slowly and when the gravel in the centre of road starts to rise to the point where it's about to scrape the bottom of the car, I would run my left wheel over the centre of the pile keeping my right wheel on the edge of the right side of the road. This technique ensured adequate clearance. When the gravel in the centre shallows out, I return back on the beaten path.
I thought I was the only crazy one with a 2wd up there until I seen a low clearance Mercedes Benz parked at the TH after my hike. Risky business. Doable despite being hilarious.
The hike was sweet. Despite hiking on gravel for the first 5 miles to the cabin, the altitude was gradual allowing me to keep my pace up. Under 6 hours moving time up and back!
Despite the lack of views up there due to antennas etc. The logbook was nice to read dating back over 20 years ago. Clear skies. |
