Ascent Trip ReportSolo hike from the Reyes Creek trailhead along the Piedra Blanca trail to Haddock Mountain, approx. 10 miles each way. There was abundant water in the creek between the Bear Trap trailcamp and Haddock trailcamp; with the water levels still fairly high, crossing the creek required careful planning in a couple of places. However, the trail between the Beartrap and Haddock camps is generally much better maintained than it was a couple of years ago (though the trail is blocked in a few places with fallen oaks that have yet to be removed or chain-sawed). By contrast, thorny chaparral is consuming the trail up the hill to Haddock Mountain; it was impossible to avoid a few minor punctures. At the summit I found a trio of small ticks feeding on me. The view was gorgeous on this mild, sunny day. A few tiny patches of snow remained at and near the summit.
