Ascent Trip ReportC2C Fernow and 7FJ in 14 hours, party of 2. Maude was on original plan as well, but just two 9000' peaks on loose rock is enough to feel exhausted.
Scrambling up and down a steep gully from 7FJ West Ridge Col down to Big Creek basin is easily the crux of the whole route - loose sand, kitty litter and long rocky runout at around 7400'. Rock gets more stable below that. On our way down from the summit we followed cairns to some steep gully shortcut which was an obvious mistake - following the ridge to the col at approximately 8690' is much easier on better rock. Traverse from 7SFJ West Ridge to SW ridge route is straightforward, rock is still loose but not sketchy.
Definitely not doing it again, unless all loose rock nonsense is covered with snow.
