Ascent Trip ReportI parked at the end of Mountain Drive next to the old chairlift tower. I found the trailhead next to the telephone pole at the end of the road. This trail is faint, and it could be easily missed. In fact, I lost the trail part way up, and bushwhacked for a while before meeting up with the better-maintained blue-blazed trail.
I continued on the blue trail until it reached a signed trail junction. The signs pointed the way to the East Peak and the main peak of Copple Crown. At this point, most of the elevation gain has been completed, and there is minimal additional climbing to reach either summit. I went to the East Peak first, which was 0.3 miles from this junction.
From the East Peak, there is a nice view toward the south, at the top of a cliff. This is also where you will find the Tappan memorial plaque. The East Peak extends a little beyond the plaque area where the trail ends. I bushwhacked across a couple of rocky outcrops in that direction, but didn't see anything else of note.
I backtracked and went on to visit the main peak, followed by the county high point downslope from the main peak.
