Ascent Trip ReportAn short/easy woods track from the south west side ....2km, 40 minutes RT.
We found our way to the village Saint Ferdinand on the west shore of beautiful Lac William, where we drove west up rue Eglise to the intersection with hwy 165 at the top of the hill ..... the view of the lac and the area from this vantage point is outstanding. From this intersection we traveled southwest on Route Vianney for 5km to a right on 3e Rang, then northwest 1.2km to a rough/4x4 wood track on the right as shown on the topo (ignore the recent logging road 100M before) ..... there is a stop sign here, another signs say that the 3e Rang from here-on is closed, the last section of 3e Rang is in poor shape. Park here, this is the TH, the summit is to the northeast.
I walked up the wood track as it climbs straight northeast to the summit area at about 1km, I had to deal with a lot of snow (surprisingly still with us), luckily it was hard packed as the track is a multipurpose winter trail. At about half way up the track goes through a recently logged area making the walking difficult due to the felled trees still on the ground. The track arrives at a large clearing, a side track leads left to the true summit .... an 8 foot square concrete slab (perhaps an old Tower foundation) with a Survey Marker embedded in the center "Terre & Forets Quebec, Point Geodesique #6165". My GPS read 46.08135, 71.62507. To the east is a permanent camp - a large white tent with a stove and perhaps a warming hut for users of the multipurpose winter trail??.
About 100M before the true summit to the left of the woods track (large logged clearing) is what I first thought to be the summit ..... you'll see bare tubular framing for what appears to be "new solar panels", beside-it (on the highground) is a 5 foot high orange Survey Post marked "Repere Geodesique", my GPS here read 46.08079, 71.62581.
NB: I was surprised to see the amount of snow still with us throughout this area.
"YOU BETTER DIVIDE THE PIZZA INTO 4 PIECES, I'M NOT HUNGRY ENOUGH TO EAT THE EIGHT PIECES." ......... Berraism.
