Ascent Trip ReportBluff Mountain is closed to visitors except for tours led by the NC Nature Conservancy.
Peakbaggers should be mindful that the standard tour does not go to the summit, which has limited views. If you are booking a trip, be sure to tell the guide if you want to go to the summit. Including the summit makes it a 5-mile hike, instead of the standard 4-mile tour.
The standard loop visits the only fen (a rare type of bog) in the southern Appalachians and includes stops at two ledges with great views to the north and east. The latter is part of the cliff that gives the mountain its name. Lean over the edge and you'll see a waterfall splashing 100 feet below.
Round trip 5 miles, about 3.5 hours including stops. |
