Ascent Trip ReportThis route is well marked, popular and with no particular difficulties.
Trailhead_ les Cornes- signed carpark at 1200m at end of tarmac road, N of le Cul du Bois Village. Cross alpine meadow for short distance before entering shady beech and cross small stream. Trees thin from 1670m . Reach lip of alpine meadow bowl 1890m, just S of Dent des Portes and continue S with 90m descent. Ridge ascends and curves SE , switchbacks through alpine meadow on limestone. Final few 100m, North, path is rocky, but it's a walk not a scramble.
Summit has witch's hat survey frame, flat rivet and cross. Superb views including Mt Blanc and tame choughs.
We ascend Dent Des Portes 1900m on return, easy walk up pinnacle. Then return to lip and descend via marked route to Le Golet de Dove/ Chalet de Golet- more meadow, less woods, less steep, goats, a bit further. Final section follows track by le Grand Nant river, south, where we meet mushroom pickers- early this year due to rain. 14.6 km total walked. |
