Ascent Trip ReportBad day to do Chimney Tops. Winds were 20 knots gusting to over 35 knots and were forecast to increase. I went as hard as I could and got up and back in an hour and a half, but 20 minutes of that was climbing the final 50 feet on the exposed Anakeesta shale. Winds were ripping and I climbed up hand over hand to get to the top. At the top, the winds died down a bit and I could get a few photos and a short video. On the way down, it was pretty intimidating to see a large fir moving 30 degrees with the roots actually lifting a foot off the ground. I hope that tree is still up there. |
