Ascent Trip ReportMODERATE SNOWSHOE HIKE: 3.3 miles (4.5 hours) — 25 miles from Hanover ..NOTE .. It has been pointed out to me that they have not plowed the parking lot out in the past and if that so then it will add 1.4 miles to the hike .. thank you Chris M for pointing this out ... PLEASE NOTE THE DATE CHANGE .. PLEASE UPDATE RSVPs IF PLANS CHANGE ...
The snow covered rocky summit of Mount Cardigan, at 3,121 feet, affords a panoramic view stretching from rural New Hampshire in the foreground to the summits of the White Mountains in the distance. In 1855, a devastating fire burned over the summit and removed all the vegetation, including the thin soil. Well over a century later, the summit remains bare of all but a few lichens.
Snowshoes and traction devices are a must..
