Ascent Trip ReportGovernors + Barrier + Tamanos
Fun day - snow free this year, but we had some super heat this year. Used poles. Started with a scramble up the creek to saddle, went up Governors, then dropped and traversed the back side of slope of Barrier, then re-ascended, went up Barrier on the ridge, then dropped on the ridge facing Owyhigh Lakes until the intersection with the main trail right across from Tamanos booth Path. Went up Tamanos well-defined boot path. All fun, gorgeous flowers. Very end, scramble, choose your fun, stay high to scramble more. Fun day.
BARRIER - Get to the lakes, follow faint paths, choose your gap you'll aim for when you are staring at the ridge line to the L of Barrier summit. We headed for gap to L of Barrier summit. Easy, some loose rock, I chose the solid rocks, easy to do. Hit Saddle, drop slowly to back side of Barrier, we dropped to 5900'. Traverse under Barrier, heading south, sidehilling. Re-asend obvious boot path after passing under Barrier summit from behind. Re-hit the ridge, ascend obvious boot path to Barrier. Drop, choosing your own sometimes bushy venture, aiming for tamanos boot path (we were doing tamanos right after this) down W ridge line, I'd stay in bushy stuff, a wee bit below the rock line. RE-hit Owyhigh lakes main path, take it wherever you wanna go next. |
