Ascent Trip Report

Directions to the general area (US 250 south of Cameron to Hupp Ridge Road) are still valid, but the situation is changed on top. The high point area is undergoing heavy duty bulldozing apparently by an energy company. From Hupp Ridge Road significant chain link fences topped by outward sloping barbed wire block the path uphill others have taken and clearly suggest hikers are not welcomed. The house across the street now has a large sign reading "NO HUNTING DON'T EVEN ASK."

Instead I turned right (as I was headed downhill, so It would be left as you approach from 250) on a dirt road off Hupp Ridge Rd. just before the high point area.I found a parking spot several hundred yards down the road ( GPS coordinates N39 49.327 W80 31.78) where my GPS indicated it was 0.21 mi as the crow flys to the HP coordinates. This may be public access. Remnants of a trail ascend along a fence line, and on top there's an old sign with an image of hikers, some signage about trails, and some orange paint blazes on trees. The area around the high point coordinates has been disturbed by bulldozing. Slightly north of that spot (within the high contour area) an undisturbed area (where the hikers sign is located) may now be the county high point. Nice views.
