Ascent Trip Report

We are our way home after a 3 month "2011 Driving/County-Hiking Tour of the Gulf/Atlantic Coast", where we visited a total of 120 Counties, this County is the last visited on this Tour.

I visited all of the 4 candidate High Point areas of this County.

Area 1 ..... mainly a x-country hike eastbound .... .75 miles, 30 minutes RT.
We approached from the west. We found our way to the center-square in the Village of Andover, where we motored west on US6 to a right on Stanhope-Kellogsville Road, .75 miles north to the-crest-of-road. We parked the van, this was our TH ..... this spot is at the north end of an open grass field and the start of woods both on the right, beyond at about 100 feet in the woods is an abandoned house. The highground area is easily visible to the right (east) among the woods on top of the ridge.
I hiked eastbound along the edge of the woods, following the south side outline of the woods. I went through a north-south tree line, climbed steeply east to the ridge, then north to the highground 15 yards inside the woods (about 600 yards from the TH). A look at the Satellite Google map will clarify this easy route.
The summit area is a sloppy-looking small open clearing with recently cut fire-wood, a rusted-out truck frame and a BM inbeded in a concrete block "US Coast and Geodetic Survey Maker, Andover 1928". I chose my spot for the highground at 10 feet from the BM at 41.61831, 80.60808.

Area 2 ..... From the square in the Village of Andover we drove south on #7 for 5 miles to the Williamsfield, junction 7/322, turned right (west) on 322 for .87 miles to a left on Ridge Road. There are 2 new homes to the left up Ridge Road.
We drove south on Ridge Road .37 miles to the second long driveway mailbox #8172 (past the first driveway mailbox #8118). We drove east up to the house at 300 yards, there was no one home, we decided to risk a walk to the highground, located northeast from the house at about 100 yards (behind east of house # 8118).

Area 3 ..... From Ridge Road at #8172 we continued south .68 miles to a left on Tidd Road, 100 yards to the crest-of-the-road and a pull-off on the right, parked here. Bushwacked south to the highground at at less than 100 yards, fairly open woods with thorny vines, stomped around some.

Area 4 ..... We found our way back to the square in Andover and took #6 north (the road heads north then east into PA) for 16 miles to the OH/PA State Line, Pennline Bowling Lanes on the corner. We turned left (north) on State Line Road .43 miles to the crest-of- the-road. The highground is 25 yards to the left at the obvious mound.
