Ascent Trip Report

Peak & Lake District Sojourn. Day 36.
Roof of England, Wasdale, Lake District (7 Nuttalls)
Lingmell 807m, Middleboot Knotts 703m, Round How 741m, Great End 910m, III Crag 935m, Broad Crag 934m and Scafell Pike 978m.

Summary
This was an epic day in perfect conditions out hiking the Scafell group of Nuttalls in one round. Also a day out with some other human beings namely the terrible twins Chris Smith and Frank Leopold. The day started out with the long drag up to Lingmell and then into the beautiful central Scafell plateau to do some side trips to knock off Middleboot Knotts and Round How (both simple tops) before a bit of a long drag up to get Great End (broad plateau with several rocky cairns) and then onwards to rocky III Crag and Broad Crag (both rocky tops, in particularly Broad Crag). All in beautiful sunshine with just a gentle breeze. Then it was the steep down and up section to bag Scafell Pike, the highest bit of rock in England. After the leisurely break on Scafell it was time for the long decent to the finish (sorry I left you here guys!). All in all a stunning day out in the most beautiful rocky amphitheatre and it is always always a pleasure to bag Scafell Pike.

Parking: Wasdale Head Car Park. £7 parking. Toilets and mini shop. Can take large vans.
Route: All good paths but very rocky in many sections. The side trip to Broad Crag consisted of large boulders. Small cairns on most summits bar Scafell Pike. Excellent views of surroundings and of course very busy on SP.
Route Statistics: A 14km day with 1,120m of height gain done in 7 hours. Yes it was a day to savour and not rush in the slightest. Especially when you are hiking with senior citizens :-)
