Ascent Trip Report

Great hike! Got a late start from Randall's RV at the trailhead (4pm). He lives right at the bottom, so no drive to the TH needed. We cut up to the Minnewawa Trail and headed for the summit to the south. Since we were making such good time around 3 miles, we decided to do the last 2 miles. Plenty of encounters with Border Patrol, but no other hikers. We tripped some seismic sensors that the Border Patrol have in the area. They were all very friendly and wished us well on our summit bid. We didn't realize until after the hike that the Mexican border actually cuts across the very lower southern reaches of the mountain. We topped out just before sunset and luckily had a headlamp for making our way down the mountain in the dark. Pics
