Ascent Trip ReportAfter receiving permission to access the army base, I was issued a key to the gate on Cottonwood Canyon Road. After passing the locked gate, continued up the excellent dirt road until reaching the summit road marked by a steel post. Turned left and headed up the road to the second switchback, where there was sufficient space to park on the shoulder. There was a marker here indicating that the summit was 3.4 miles away. I could have driven further up the road, but wanted to hike.
The hike to roads end was uneventful. From there scrambled up the boulder pile to the summit and signed the register, which was contained in a three pound coffee can. I was surprised that with the peak being on the largest ammo dump in the country, the register was not in an ammo can.
Returned along the same route.
