Ascent of Little Black Mountain-Lee County High Point on 2011-02-19Date: | Saturday, February 19, 2011 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Little Black Mountain-Lee County High Point | Location: | USA-Kentucky/Virginia | Elevation: | 3760 ft / 1146 m |
Ascent Trip ReportAfter visiting Black Mountain, I stopped at the gap N of the Doubles and hiked the road down to the Lee County HP. The summit point is indefinite. With a three-county corner, I expected to find a survey mark, but the best I could do was to trample around where the Wise-Lee ridge reaches the state-line ridge.
The road would be passable by 4WD if the winter blowdowns were removed. Except for the first and last parts, most of the outbound hike is downhill. The last mile follows a natural gas pipeline. Heavy mining within a quarter mile could eventually threaten this summit.
I estimate 5 miles round trip. 1:10 outbound, 1:15 return. |
