Ascent Trip ReportThis was the only peak that I know we actually summited on the 10 day backpacking trek through Philmont. We camped at Shaefers Pass the night before with the intention of catching sunrise on the Tooth of Time. Since it was the final day of our trip and we were wearing out, we ended up sleeping a little later than planned and had to settle for sunrise on Shaefers Peak instead. As we approached the summit, we knew that there was no way we could cover the ground to the Tooth of Time by sunrise, so we waited a bit on top of Shaefers for the sun to rise. I can't remember how long - it was over a decade ago... After that, we headed due east along Tooth of Time Ridge to the main camp and ended our trek. |
