Ascent Trip ReportI visited Whipple while on a 23 mile run, on which I also visited nearby Turkey Hill and Mt. Pisgah.
Approached the area from Mt. Pisgah in Winchester. Ran up Johnson Street from the east toward the Mt. Pisgah parking area, climbing up from a low point of about 210'. I entered a trail at the parking area, and completed the ~1 minute run up the path to the summit. First I passed one rocky area, then continued through a few trees to a slightly higher, and larger, rocky area on the summit. I stopped for a couple of minutes to take in the view. It was nice in all directions, but the treetops were just high enough to block some of the scenery. Maybe the view would be markedly better when the leaves are down.
I then spent about 25 minutes sampling the trails in this ~120 acre conservation area. The trails were very rocky, with both large and small rocks everywhere. I had to walk across a few sections that had lots of jagged rocks that my non-trail running shoes can't handle well. There is a pond in the eastern-most part of the park, which I visited only briefly. I didn't explore that area very much, since I still had a long run home ahead of me. |
