|Date:||Saturday, October 2, 2010|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||344 ft / 104 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI visited this hill on a 23 mile run, in which I also climbed nearby Turkey Hill and Whipple Hill.
I approached the area on Lockeland Street. I was briefly confused, looking for "Watermain Street", as it is labeled on Google Maps. The street sign says "Agawam St", however. I took Agawam, which goes north and then makes a right angle and leads to the east. This second part was torn up and was a dirt surface. I turned left on Andrews St. (where I saw some guys playing a pickup game of football on the nearby grass field), and ran to the end of the street, by the woods. I scouted the area for a trailhead, and was almost ready to give up, and prepare for an uphill bushwhack. I ran a short distance north along a driveway, which was in disrepair, with tall weeds growing through the cracks (the home at the end did appear occupied, nevertheless). Off the driveway, I saw a wooden sign set back in the trees that read "MT. PISGAH", and a trail leading into the woods ... in luck.
The trail led straight uphill at first, before making a more gradual climb to the top. I ran off-trail a bit so I could get to the old concrete water tower. I then continued on other trails in the park. The trails didn't appear to get much traffic, and overall this hill seemed like a lonely place, despite being surrounded by large, expensive homes. I also found and climbed a rock outcropping that was higher than the base of the tower, but I almost overlooked it because of the dense brush on most parts of this hill. Getting there required a short bushwhack, with lots of thorns to avoid.
