Ascent Trip ReportThis summit, on private land, finally completed the list of every P1K whose prominence cell covers the state of Tennessee!
I met up with the landowner mid-morning at his property, worried that plans might fall through after several rounds of heavy rain rolled through the area overnight and early morning, but as I arrived the rain stopped and the clouds began to break. We piled into his 4-wheeler and rode to the summit. En route, we discovered a tree had blocked the main road, but no matter--we simply detoured up a crazy steep two-track to gain the ridge! He was able to drive us up to--and over--the very summit. I got out, touched the top, and wandered a bit, enjoying the limited but nice views through the trees, and even seeing a buzzard soaring overhead. The landowner offered to show me more of the property, and I happily obliged. We spent almost 3 hours riding the literally miles and miles of ATV tracks criss-crossing his property, while he regaled me with stories of his life, the property, and the run-ins he'd had with others on it. Unfortunately, the disrespect of others has forced him to outfit his property with innumerable motion-activated cameras, and he would even get live alerts on his phone as we drove through some of the gates on our tour. He explained that due to the corporation that had been set up for the property and concerns for liability issues, interested parties could only visit the property accompanied by him as his guest. As hunting is a big focus of the property, I wouldn't recommend inquiring about access during hunting season.
Overall, I found the landowner to be a very kind and gracious host, and thanked him repeatedly for his accommodating me. I would again stress to anybody interested in reaching this summit to go through the proper channels and reach out to the landowner--legitimate parties can reach out to me for contact information. |
