|Date:||Sunday, May 2, 2021|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||8705 ft / 2653 m|
Ascent Trip ReportClimbed Colchuck with Anthony, Cassondra & Ted. Left the gate to Colchuck Lake ~10:00 AM (road walk for 4 miles & ~1,400 gain to the trailhead). Took about 7 hours to get to camp (our first big haul with heavy packs for the year). Camped between the lake and the pond.
Started for our summit bid ~5:00 AM Sunday. Snow was firm/sugary but made it up to the saddle with no problems. Up from the saddle required a bit of steep snow climbing but the group before had kicked in some nice steps. Made the summit around 10 AM (?).
Steep snow was sketchy coming down and it became more sugary and soft but thankfully uneventful aside from the mountain goats that were in our company. The rest of the descent was straightforward, although the snow wasn't soft enough to glissade quite yet. Long slog back from camp to car, racing to get that car beer!
