Ascent Trip ReportHave driven past this gnarly beast many times on Jungo Rd, one of those random features that make you scream out, "Man, I want to get on top of that thing." But I had never found the right time to stop and investiagte further; it doesn't look like there is an easy way up. It is only about an hours drive from Winnemucca, so I finally decided to make a dedicated trip. Heading west on Jungo, just after Antelope Summit, Sawtooth is very obvious on the south side of the road. After passing by the peak, turn left onto a decent enough road. The road goes past some derelict buildings towards some old mines and hooks around to the south of the peak. I stopped around here somewhere and took the only route that looked non-class 5 straight up the guts. A short but intense scramble made the summit. Attractive view from the top, though not as wide open as those from the higher Nevada summits; it was a fun climb. I think the ascent took maybe 30 minutes. I found a Sprite can on the summit that said proud sponsor of the 1988 US Olympic Team. The can is now in my garbage can.
