Ascent Trip ReportBlackrock is a peak that has been on my "hike it" list for a long time. Luckily I got a wonderfully clear day to see it for the first time!
The hike between Yellow Face and Blackrock isn't a long one, but it's a bit of a rollercoaster of sorts as it ascends straight up and down a series of small knobs. At times the Plott Balsam ridgeline becomes extremely narrow making for some wonderful ridgewalking.
The final ascent up Blackrock is narrow and steep, but the effort is rewarded with spectacular views of the Plotts, the Great Balsams, the Smokies, and all of the valleys below. Visibility was crystal clear.
On the way back to the BRP, I enjoyed scrambling up and around the various rock formations along the trail. I also made an effort to tag all the various smaller knobs between Blackrock and Yellow Face.
