Ascent of Ahumoa on 2021-03-29
|Date:||Monday, March 29, 2021|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||7060 ft / 2151 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThe road up after the check-in station is a 4x4 designated road, but is actually pretty good except the dirt mounds they placed across the road. The first one is just after the big trees. They were no problem for high clearance, but suspect they would high-center a standard rental car. I was able to drive up the road and parked next to an old field. The road very quickly degraded after the field and would not recommend trying to go any farther even if you have a jeep. The old road/trail up was very straightforward to the top. There is a large monument on the lower side of the crater rim.
If you have a regular car there is a good parking spot 200ish yards after the check-in station next to some large trees. If you park next to the trees that makes the round trip around 6.5 miles and 1200 ft ascent.
If you are able to start at the field the round trip is just right at 2 miles and 400 ft ascent.
