Ascent Trip Report

A drive to the north end of the County at the West Hackberry Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

Bob Martin's TR of 2003 still applies, I update his TR by adding a few details, also there was no army blockade on this visit.
There is a cemetery on the corner where a right turn onto LA390 is made in Hackberry, 1 3/4 miles west on LA390 to a right turn (north) on 646 (Black Lake Road), at 1/2 mile turn left (west) onto 647 (but still Black Lake Road). Travel, past the main entrance to Petroleum Reserve on the right, to a T-Junction (647 continues right). Turn right and drive .3 miles and park the car ala Martin. The fenced-in high ground is to the right, I also walked 100 yards to the fence and I agree that the highground is here.

The drive over the Ellender Lift Bridge at the Intra Coastal Waterway, as you enter Cameron County, reminds one of this amazing Waterway and of the visionary leaders of the past.
From here we drove north to I10 then west into Texas.
