Ascent Trip Report

It took me three tries to get South. The first time, I stopped driving and turned around when I reached the avocado grove. The second time I drove to the gate but didn't have time to hike from the gate. Today, I brought my bike, still hoping that the gate would be opened. No luck. With multiple cameras looking down on me and the gate clearly signed, I hemmed and hawed for a few minutes but really pulled out my bike and off I went. It's a hell of a climb, but I had to walk my bike only a couple of times. After tagging the peak farthest from the trailhead, I road back down to a saddle where a old road headed up to South proper. I ditched the bike, climbed up a short steep ridge and walked around the top until I was satisfied I hit the highest point and that there was no benchmark to be found. The ride back down was fast and exhilarating and I got out without incident.
