Ascent Trip ReportParked right near the intersection of Sheep Creek Truck Trail with Lone Pine Canyon Road. The gate was open but I have a Ford Focus, plus I wanted to tire out Callie the pup. The jeep road was pretty icy in shaded spots but there's been enough traffic that the ice wasn't completely smooth and had some grit on it, so I never really thought about putting on the Yaktrax. There were a bunch of guys car camping at the yellow post site, but other than that we didn't see anyone. At the yellow post site we hopped on the PCT and took that over to the saddle between Peak 6705 and Gobbler's Knob. The use trail that is supposedly on the ridge has been eroded away and is only visible in very short stretches, so we just pointed ourselves up and went. Excellent summit views of the snowy Baldy massif. Fun glissading on the way down, which really confused the puppy who was seeing snow for the first time. On the way back to Sheep Creek Truck Trail we tagged Peak 6705 by going straight up its west ridge, then straight down its north side. Hints of use trails in both places but nothing consistent. Total for both peaks was 8 miles and 2200' of gain; Callie the pup did great and even fell asleep in the car on the way home.
