Ascent Trip ReportMy final of four ascents today. After checking out the CoHPs for Montgomery, Howard, & Washington and Monocacy Natl Battlefield, Harpers Ferry Natl Hist Park, & Antietam Natl Battlefield, I finished my day by going up Catoctin Mtn in the dark. I parked at some driveway on the west side of Tower Rd with a gate that says "no parking in driveway." I assumed that it was the gate for the radio tower. I was right. I headed west to the tower from here and up the hill behind it to the high point. I have a picture with the cairn taken with a flash in the dark. I headed both directions on the ridge from here to make sure I had covered the high ground. It seemed like a pile of rocks about 150 ft to the south of here is higher, but it was hard to tell in the dark. When driving to the spot to park, if you hit 14042 Tower Rd (a big McMansion on the right), you have driven too far south on Tower Rd. Pics |
