Ascent Trip Report

A long weekend in the Faroes - John Buchan's Isles of sheep, with their layer cake silhouettes that haunt the imagination. The resident misted lifted long enough to tempt me up the eastern ridge of Slaettaratindur from the road running over the col between the west coast and Gjogv. Followed a path traversing below the summit and winding round the mountain's western shoulder, leaving an easy scramble over blocky terraces to the little mesa that is the mountain's very flat summit. Cloud started to form, emphasising the unreality of the similar, slender platform peaks all around, each looking like a dwelling for one of the northern gods.
