Ascent Trip ReportHiked with Dan and Samson from Shaft Road for winter credit. The bushwhack up was nicely packed out and easy to follow. Dan wore microspikes the whole time, I started with microspikes, but soon switched over to snowshoes. Although the white sidewalk was in stellar shape, the wind was blowing the fluffy powder on to the path, and in some spots it was pretty deep. We met another couple at the canister who had hiked over from the Devil's Path parking area and hiked North Dome first. They had their little Jack Russell with them named Rocket. Rocket did not have any winter gear - not even a jacket; she was shivering. Sammy shivers at the summit often because we're not moving, but I just felt really bad for this dog since it was in the single digits with about a 15mph wind. Sammy had on his Hurtta body warmer and warm cherry coat.
We had consider doing North Dome too, but Dan was very cold right from the start and said he never really warmed up the whole time hiking. This made him rather grumpy the whole time, so I left it up to him as to whether we'd do just one peak or both today. Dan said just Sherrill.
